Playa Hermosa is a stunning, uncrowded beach located just north of La Lora and north of Santa Teresa in Costa Rica. As surf instructors, we always recommend this beach to our students because of its long, flat, sandy shoreline, perfect for learning how to surf.

At the northern end of the beach, there’s a point break that provides a right-hand wave that breaks twice, making it ideal for beginners to practice. However, there are rocks out there near the point break, so it’s important to be cautious and stay away from them. For those looking for a challenge, there’s also a left-hand peak on the other side of the channel.

It’s important to note that the beach can be dangerous for swimmers due to a strong rip current and channel near the point break. Therefore, we always advise our students to stay within the designated surf area and to listen to our instructions regarding safety.

At low tide, the waves can become less consistent, so we typically schedule our lessons around the mid and high tides for the best surfing experience. We also provide our students with proper equipment, such as beginner-friendly soft-top surfboards and rash guards, to ensure their comfort and safety.

Overall, Playa Hermosa is a beautiful and peaceful spot to learn how to surf or to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. As surf instructors, we highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a fun and safe surfing experience
